Hi! Welcome to the home page of #mensa, our IRC chat channel on the Undernet network.
Those of us who are channel regulars go there for intelligent, friendly conversation. We invite you to join us.
A good many of us are members of Mensa, a society for people with a high IQ. But we are not affiliated with them and in no way speak for them. The only connection that we have is that a lot of us are members.
Sometimes the chat in the channel is serious, sometimes light-hearted. You do not need to be a member of Mensa to take part.
The ops give a high priority to protecting channel members from obscenity, insults, etc. We endeavour to make the channel a safe haven where civility reigns and discourtesy is discouraged.
Guidelines
The channel guidelines are at http://alamo.satexas.com/~dizzy/guidelines.html.
Profiles
Some channel regulars have a personal profile page. There is an index to the profiles at http://alamo.satexas.com/~dizzy/profiles/profiles.html.
Maps
We have maps showing the locations of some of the #mensa regulars in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia and New Zealand.
Join us in #mensa
There are several ways to join us.
Most IRC users connect with an IRC client. Firefox has an IRC client called Chatzilla. Opera offers an IRC client too. Both IRC clients are freeware.
You can download an IRC client that has to be installed on your computer. The most popular IRC client for Windows systems is a shareware client called mIRC.
There is also the Undernet Webchat interface. Most web browsers that support Java are suitable, e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Opera. Most people seem to prefer the other methods.
For a link to the Undernet Webchat interface, and to a page with a list of downloadable IRC clients, go to
www.user-com.undernet.org/userguide/join.php.
For safety, remain anonymous by not entering your real name in the "Full Name" field. You could put something cryptic or witty.
Interested in what your IQ may be?
There are links to online intelligence tests at www.allthetests.com/intelligence.php3, www.iqtest.com and www.iqtest.dk.
Or you could try the Mensa "Mensa Workout". Follow the link from www.mensa.org.
These are not official IQ tests, but they should give an indication of what your IQ may be. Mensa will accept scores from any of a large number of standardised IQ tests (but not online tests).
For information about Mensa, see the Mensa website at www.mensa.org.
The #mensa online forum
BobG has set up for us an online forum. Details
Thanks Bob.
History of the channel
